I just got one of these to replace a 2004 Toshiba 34" widescreen HD TV that weighed 156 lbs. At 40 lbs., the Proscan 40LD45QC seems weightless. The image is very, very good. It compares favorably to our 2002 37" Sharp Aquos LCD HD TV. Actually, it is significantly brighter. But it has the same flaws that all 60 Hz monitors do with respect to fast motion. The TV seems to be identical to the discontinued Proscan 40LD45Q. The specs seem exactly the same. Proscan is one of the American brand divisions of Thomson Consumer Electronics. The ProScan name is owned by RCA and superseded the RCA Dimensia line in the early 1990s, so it's not exactly the no-name brand it appears to be.
The Proscan 40LD45QC was the largest LCD TV I could find that would fit in the space I had. It is 38.9" wide (exactly) and I had only 39.4" to work with. EVery other 40" LCD was greater than 39.5" in width. I have heard others complain about the TV being unstable on its plastic stand, but I don't know what they're talking about. Mine is perfectly stable. It is all black plastic and looks very neat and hi-tech. There is very little plastic border around the screen. Most of the face is LCD.
All the inputs are on the back and with 3 HDMI, 2 component, 1 composite plus an S video and a PC input, I can't imagine anyone running out of inputs. But it doesn't come with an HDMI cable and I had to run out and buy one after I got the thing out of the box before I could hook it up and check out the image.
It's not a 3D TV and the sound system is just OK (but who does not have their HD TV hooked up to a 6.1 or 7.1 Surround sound system these days?), but for the money, this has got to be one of the best bangs for the buck out there. If you spend twice as much, you can get a better image, but the difference in image quality is nowhere near twice. More like 5-10%. So the Proscan is a great buy. Be not afraid.
